Thinking about expanding your social media strategy in 2022? TikTok is the perfect place to begin brand awareness in the new year. TikTok has skyrocketed in popularity to the #1 platform since 2020. With 1 billion monthly active users, the app has become an opportunity for discovery and gives new creators and small brands great opportunities for engagement.

In December of 2021, the PCG social media team created “The Automotive Marketers Guide to TikTok” and hosted a webinar on how to post organic content on the platform. This playbook outlines what TikTok is, who is the TikTok generation, why it is important to get your brand on there, how to use the app, how to get started, the best video recommendations we have, and more in-depth information. We provided all this information because we would like to ensure that your organic posts are seen by other users on the platform, it is important to leverage your videos in any way possible to create brand awareness.

On top of all of the information provided in the “The Automotive Marketers Guide to TikTok” here are some tips on how to elevate your organic social strategy on TikTok. One of the most important steps to building your brand is to engage with your audience. This means following people back once they follow you or answering their comments under your videos. TikTok has a feature where you can answer a comment with your own video. This is great if someone asks a question about how to use something and you can show them how with a video. You should not only engage with your audience but also with other creators. By engaging with other creators you can collaborate on videos and ideas and also draw inspiration from one another. TikTok is all about keeping up with what’s trending but as a creator, you want to make sure your content is unique to your niche and your brand so you stand out.

Posting organically on TikTok is great because you are able to participate in all of the trends. TikTok also offers TikTok for Business. Hubspot created a TikTok ads guide and stated, “TikTok For Business is an all-in-one tool for marketers to advertise on TikTok. Instead of devising their own strategy, the platform helps marketers through the entire process of creating advertisements, setting budgets, reaching target audiences, and analyzing campaign data”. The platform is a great place to advertise because your ads won’t look like ads, they are more engaging and fun. There is some difference between posting organically and through TikTok ads manager. For example, the sounds and music readily available while posting organically are not the same for a business account, brands will have to use music from the Tiktok Commercial Library. So, this is where you may run into some issues if you wanted to use a trending sound behind your ad. PCG does not currently offer TikTok advertising but we do recommend posting on the platform organically to gain brand awareness.
